Indian Railway Zones: Comprises of Total 18 Zones
Indian Railway Zones And Headquarters: The Indian Railways organizes its operations into zones, further divided into divisions, each with its own divisional headquarters. The Indian Railway System comprises a total of 18 zones, including the Metro Railway in Kolkata, and 70 Divisions. At the helm of each division is a Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) who reports to the General Manager (GM) of the respective zone.
Indian Railway Services: Total 8 Services
A DRM can be selected from any of the eight organized services within Indian Railways, namely the Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers (IRSSE), Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS), Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), and Indian Railway Stores Service (IRSS) for a tenure of three years, extendable based on the recommendation of the Railway Board.
The DRM is supported by one or two Additional Divisional Railway Managers (ADRM) in the division’s operations. Divisional officers, overseeing various departments including Stores, Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Signal and Telecommunication, Accounts, Personnel, Operating, Commercial, Safety, Medical, and Security branches, report directly to the Divisional Railway Manager.
