Land Allocation for Vital Infrastructure
In a significant move aimed at bolstering Mumbai’s metro connectivity, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has allocated a sprawling 47-hectare land for a pivotal car shed and other essential projects as part of the forthcoming Metro Line 12, which will stretch from Kalyan to Taloja.
In August 2023, an announcement revealed the allocation of land for the pivotal depot and associated infrastructure. This allocation includes a labor camp, casting yard, receiving substation, and a lush plantation zone. The designated area is situated near Nilje Pada within the Kalyan taluka.
An authoritative source from the MMRDA disclosed that the 47 hectares of land have been generously granted by the collector, marking an integral step in a paramount public endeavor.
Initiation of Construction Bidding Process
This momentous gesture paves the way for initiating the depot’s construction bidding process. Anticipations suggest that the MMRDA aims for a staggering ridership of 1.25 lakh passengers within the inaugural year, projected to surge to over 2.6 lakh daily commuters by 2031. The corridor’s mission is twofold: to alleviate Mumbai’s congestion problem and expedite the region’s overall progress trajectory.
